International Remembrance Day 21st July 2011
21st July is recognised internationally as a day to remember those who have died as a direct, or indirect, result of alcohol or substance misuse. Events have been held around the world since it was first organised in
This is the first year Let's Build at The Willows in
About 25 to 30 people from across Nottinghamshire attended the event. People were invited to remember their loved ones in a memory book, relaxation therapies were on offer, poetry was read out and a one minute silence was held whilst a tree was planted.
Hetty's and Regents House, both services for parents or carers affected by someone else's drug or alcohol use, Stonham, a supported housing organisation and W.A.M (What About Me), a service for children affected by someone else's substance misuse all provided support on the evening. The various alternative therapies that Hetty's offered were extremely well received by service users and staff and left everyone feeling very relaxed.
Special thanks must go to John who spent the evening barbequing sausages and burgers for everyone and to Ruth and Karen who made sure everyone had a seat, a drink and anything else they needed!
However, without the service users we wouldn't have had an event so extra special thanks goes to them. We look forward to building on this event and holding something similar next year and hope to see you all then.
